Glazing windows is one of the best things a homeowner can do to maximise the energy efficiency of their property. When you buy a new window, the type of glazing you choose can affect performance and energy efficiency. The energy efficiency of the window depends on how well it is installed. A handle is attached to the sliding window, and a single pane of glass is installed in the window. Double glazed windows have a third pane of glass and are extremely difficult to break. Although the cost of the glass is the same as for individual windows, double glazing has higher costs per square metre than single windows due to its double thickness. Triple-glazed windows are more expensive and cost up to three times as much as single-glazed windows, but contain more materials and more glass. Double glazing is a type of plastic window, but it is difficult to say what kind of glass is ideal for outdoor glazing. Double glazing, usually made of PVC or acrylic laminate, can be applied to existing single-pane windows, effectively transforming them into double glazing. Storm windows improve the efficiency of single-pane windows by providing an insulating layer to the outside of the window.
