Bi-fold doors vs French doors – What’s best for my Sussex home?

Thinking of making changes to the rear of your home? Are you adding an extension or simply opening up the back of your property to give you greater access to your garden or patio? We often think about the kerb appeal of our front doors, but do we give the same amount of thought to the back doors of homes?

There are a number of options available for you to consider, but here we take a look at two popular options – aluminium bi-fold doors and aluminium French doors – to help you find the right choice for your property.

Pros of both doors…

  • Manufactured to the highest quality standards
  • PAS24 and Secured by Design (SBD) accredited
  • Manufactured using robust aluminium frames
  • Energy efficient double or triple glazing to reduce heating bills
  • Multi-point locking systems and Ultion cylinders are used for peace of mind
  • Huge range of colours, glazing and hardware options
  • Manufactured with minimal sightlines
  • Range of configurations to suit all properties
  • Carry a 25-year manufacturer’s guarantee

Let’s now look at the differences between the two doors.

Aluminium bi-fold doors

With large expanses of glass these doors certainly do ‘let the outside in’. Allowing for an unrestricted view of a landscaped garden or courtyard, bi-fold doors are certainly one of the most popular home improvement trends of recent times.

Doors can be designed to suit the size of the aperture, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 leaves, stacking to the right or left, or both, stacking inside or out, and are ideal for any commercial, residential or new build property. They certainly do add the wow factor when installed into a large opening and gives the homeowner a smooth walk through to the outside due to the low aluminium threshold. You could even add a traffic door – a door that is essentially a conventional door which is built into a bi-fold door system. The traffic door can be used separately from the bi-fold door, which allows access to the outside without opening the whole door set.

The price of an aluminium bi-fold door is dependent on the number of leaves and the size of the aperture.

Aluminium French doors

French doors are a classic door style to open up any property. They comprise of two doors, which open out from the home or conservatory into a garden, patio or courtyard. Due to their size and being comprised of only two door panels they are not often used in large openings; however, they can be used with fixed glass panels either side if you need to accommodate a wider space.

If you want to add an extra level of style to your doors, French doors are available in heritage styling to add art deco aesthetics to your property.

Both aluminium French doors and aluminium bifold doors will look stunning on any property, all you need to do is consider the space you have available, your budget and how you would like to use your doors.
